Weird and Wonderful Web Words

Hits
The "hit" in web lingo is the first unit of measurement that was misused by marketing and sales companies who were pushing their sites. A hit is any action that visitors to your web site take. If they click on a link to one of your pages, that's a hit. If they download a picture, that's a hit. If they click on "online booking", that's a hit.

Therefore reporting of hits doesn't mean much. If someone actually books something, that's the measurement of success.

To find out what you should be measuring on your web site, please use this link to start a presentation I gave in October 2003.
